About the Artist

Elizabeth Henkel Ulrey has had a lifelong interest in art and design. She began drawing at age three and won her first prize with a watercolor at age six.  She began oil painting in college. Her painting style has evolved over the years as a never-ending quest for improvement. She has been painting nearly 80 years.

She earned her Bachelor's of Design from the University of Michigan and has continued to study painting ever since.  She has studied with many teachers, including most recently, the renowned Edward Loper. Her paintings have been on display frequently in galleries and shows near her home in Wilmington, DE.

Each painting requires several hundred hours over many months to complete and invariably goes through many versions before the artist is satisfied.

Some of the paintings shown on this website are available for purchase. They are priced at $2000 and up, depending on size. Most are oil on canvas. Because each painting is unique, they will not all be available.

As her teacher Edward Loper approaches the end of his artistic career, his work has become increasingly well known and highly prized.  This could be an opportunity to own superb artwork done in the Loper tradition.  Available paintings will be priced on request and may be viewed in person at the artist’s studio. The artist may be contacted by email at ssulrey@aol.com.

We hope you will enjoy looking through these photos.

About This Website

This website has been put together by members of Betty's family. It lacks the style, flair, quality, or composition befitting her art, but, we did our best. The photos were taken by amateurs with skills to match. Most have been cropped further than we would have liked. How many of you know that a picture of a rectangle does not a rectangle make? Those of you who have seen her work in person can surely attest to the fact that we have not accurately captured its color or beauty, but hopefully it is enough to give an impression.
Enjoy!
